Leave the venue better than
you found it.
Use of all En Garde
equipment is a privilege: look after borrowed kit, and pack away when you have
finished.
Respect the weapons
you are using, and adhere to the safety regulations aimed at reducing risks of
injury-
- Points of weapons are kept down
unless facing an opponent wearing a mask.
- Masks are to be worn at all times
during active fencing.
- Plastrons, jackets, breeches
(tracksuits for school clubs and events) and gloves should be worn.
- Protective boxes for boys, and cups
for girls are also advisable.
- Do not run around with a weapon,
unless within a supervised game.
Honour the traditions
of fencing by respecting fencing “etiquette”-
- Salute to your opponent, referee,
judges or maitre properly. (before and after a boute or lesson)
- Shake hands using your non-sword
hand.
- Shake hands with your opponent at
the end of a bout, thanking all your opponents at the end of a poule, and an
opposing team at the end of a match.
- Never claim a hit: always
acknowledge with "touché ".
- Apologize for any injury, however
slight, caused by yourself.
- NEVER retaliate if injured by an
opponent during a boute.
It is a privilege to participate in representative competitions- held over
the weekends:
- All events other than club
competition should be considered “team” events.
- En Garde students are selected
to represent their club, and by accepting, do so agreeing to comply
fully with their responsibilities to their club and En Garde.
- In order to be eligible for
selection, students should fulfil grade and ranking criteria
- The discretion of the Maitre is the
final arbiter. Each age group enters as a team, under a captain with
a “manager” to assist.
- They should be together to warm-up,
supporting each other throughout, remain until the whole team has finished
.
